It’s not hard to get internships if one is a computer science major so I don’t think the coop program is that much of a benefit. The Oakland campus is a minus (current students seem to be more than ready to transfer) and NE’s already considerable overcrowding likely to be worse when the kids they admitted to Oakland and London with the original expectation of keeping them there for 4 and 3 years instead a show up on Boston in Year 2 due to NE’s turnabout when it became clear no one was willing to commit to the satellite campuses for more than a year, Between Brandeis and HW, whichever your child prefers.
LOLL The Oakland campus is deliberately next to Silicon Valley - how on earth would that not be a complete asset in anyone's world? You can hate on Northeastern for the hell of it all you want, but they absolutely know what they are doing, and do it well. They were one of the first successful cooperative education programs in the nation, and they have been at it forever. Their CS and Engineering programs are outstanding, and existed before some of these universities were in existence. If you are going to hate on some place, at least know what you are saying.
All I said was a computer science major typically has no problem getting internships and therefore doesn’t need Northeastern. But thanks, for, the completely irrelevant commentary. The issues with overcrowding at NE are well documented and the fact that NE admitted this year’s class under the incorrect assumption that they could keep kids at the satellite campuses for their entire college careers also is undisputed. The decision to allow kids to transfer to main campus after one year was made in the past month or so and clearly is going to increase the number of kids in Boston considerably next fall. Maybe NE will take a very small freshman class for fall 2024 at Boston or maybe they will just wing it. It isn’t a situation I’d be paying private college tuition for when my kid had more stable options.
"More stable options"? The irony. Northeastern has taken fewer students in recent years, that is why they have other campuses - which is why they are exactly NOT overcrowded. It is obviously an extremely popular college with low acceptances and high stats students. Clearly that is what bothers some of the posters on DCUM - who by the way, hadn't even heard of other than UVA up until a few years back. Northeastern is more than stable, which is more than I can say about some of the irrational haters who have more likely than not never set foot in Boston. You people need to educate yourselves before spouting off on things you very obviously are not familiar with. Hint: it is not the Harvard graduates ranting about Northeastern. Don't make it so obvious. Northeastern is not worried about you.
Changing the terms of admissions after acceptance (ie. 4 years Oakland to 1 year Oakland) because no one would accept offer is the opposite of stable. With the poorly thought out expansions in Oakland and London, we are likely past peak NE. It was much more popular at our private a few years ago than today, while not be surprised to see a similar swoon about the public school kids over the next few years.
