Exactly what change in student demographics are posters referring to?
There hasn’t been any.
My kids are past the elementary stage, so I have a longer view on the demographics. They are changing. Original owners (primarily in Tanterra and the sliver of Olney mill that feeds into the school) who hung onto houses for a long time kept classroom size very low for many years. Then as houses started to sell, the school numbers started to tick up. Another poster spoke of class size being too big. My older kids had 20 or less in their classrooms for many years. Since anyone can follow the year at a glance stats, you can see the demographic shift. People who have lived in Olney/Brookeville for decades/generations are talking about the shift. Crime is up.
Crime is up? In Olney ? Stop it.
Very much so, unfortunately. The shoplifting at grocery stores has been a huge issue. Cars have been stolen, cars are constantly broken into, there’s been multiple videos from Neighbors on Ring of incidents.
Crime is up because it's coming in from DC. The car thefts and break ins are from a DC theft ring. The other crime you have been seeing on neighbor's ring cameras are from the same demographic of people who have lived here for decades, they have been white teenage boys.
Well, unfortunately there were gun shots reported this afternoon right by Brooke Grove. Not sure if the uptick in crime is coming from DC or not. But either way, crime is definitely up in Olney.
