Yes, I find her very annoying. I don't think she's a great actress and I found her performance in EEAAO pretty hammy, though I think that suited the style of storytelling and the filmmakers were smart to cast her because it was mildly gimmicky (as much of their casting was) in a way that works within the context of the story. Her whole things seems to me that she is likable and "down to earth" because she sees herself as downtrodden somehow. But this is based on being: an older woman in Hollywood, a not-stick-thin woman in Hollywood, a relatively normal-looking woman in Hollywood. But, uh, that's not relatable to me at all, nor does that qualify you as somehow beleaguered. She's Tony Curtis's daughter! She had the ultimate in for the industry and used it to get big roles in big movies early in her career. The fact that since then she has chosen to allow herself to age normally is laudable, but it doesn't somehow make her downtrodden. I mean, most of us are also "aging naturally" and experience way less discrimination for it in our jobs, but that's because our jobs are not "Hollywood actress" and never could be because we were not born into that industry. It's just silly. She's a wealthy, privileged woman who's never really had to work in any normal, recognizable capacity the way most people do. She's incredibly privileged and no amount of middle-aged weight gain or jowls is going to change that. I've got middle aged weight gain and jowls to, Jaime Lee. I'm not downtrodden -- I'm an UMC white lade with a college degree, I've been pretty lucky in life.
I do understand what you are saying, but I don't think you are understanding her context. As another PP said, she had no choice about being born into this. So she hasn't known anything else, any more than you don't know a world beyond your own experience. And in her world, she's had to deal with a lot of negative feedback (nepo baby...so that means she actually has not talent, right?) Female actresses are raked over the coals about their looks, and she's chosen to age more naturally than most. I admire her for it and her bravery. I think it is great that she uses what platform she has to push back against the BS beauty/fashion/celebrity industry that pushes horrible, unattainable beauty standards so that they can MAKE MONEY. I also don't think she's never had to work. Acting in films can actually be pretty hard work. Lots of pressure and again, negative feedback pushing back at you. Dealing with that your whole life could make a person feel like they are always swimming upstream. You are making some sweeping judgements about someone whose world you don't understand and who you don't really know. Which is basically what people do all day on this board.
