I’m very ashamed to know so much about this situation but I did for a short time in the mid 2000s work for nbcuniversal when bravo was just kind of morphing into what you know it to be now. You might be very surprised to know how much Kim made on her shows, housewives especially pays very little for the smaller city markets. Yes she earned some spin offs but they are paid per episode and it’s like 20-40k for 8-12 episodes if you are lucky. It’s not crazy money. The housewives that are paid a lot have 10 plus year or are already very famous when hired. What it is is a platform to make more money but what’s happened is now there are hundreds of housewives, when Kim started she was probably one of 24. And they all push the same pay walls, same instagram ads, same bravo met and greets etc…it’s just become completely over saturated. And now bravo is putting their money into younger and younger spin offs and the housewives are becoming an older and less lucrative market, especially the smaller cities. My point is she is no Teresa, there isn’t a 15 year span of her life on the shows with 7 books and multi life stories. She is a one trick pony who married an athlete which is what they all do. I know I am showing my age here but originally on the first housewives she had an opportunity to work with Kandi (who has a huge catalog and lives on song residuals) and I always thought if she could have worked with her and made a few cheeky songs that might have worked. Kind of what Erica Jayne and the countess did years later without the guide of someone so knowledge like Kandi. Also if you can’t pay your bills in Atlanta you will never make it in any other bravo market, it’s probably the least expensive area they film in. Even Dallas was getting more expensive before they cut it.
Thank you for this inside info. I used to watch when they started but the novelty has worn off.
+1. Thanks for sharing, pp.
