It’s a cultural thing. We are non-White immigrants. The crib was always in our bedroom. We nursed on demand, did not CIO. Baby slept on our chest, lap, bed when she was awake. From the crib, the baby went on a queen bed in her room. We read to kids snuggling with them in the bed. We talk and watch movies together in bed. Around the world, this is normal behavior.
I posted above that I never lie down with my kids to get them to sleep. But we did have the crib in our bedroom until about 8-9 months when our babies started STTN and I did nurse on demand, I did not do CIO, and when my kids were babies they napped on me (on my chest/in my arms) or on the bed right next to me during the day until about 4-5 months old. So you and I are not that different in terms of baby sleep practices. However, I have never done the lying down with them til they fall asleep thing. We read books in their chair or in their bed then hug and kiss and say goodnight and leave.
