Schumer can't stop this. Under procedural rules for this type of legislation, any senator can bring this to a vote, and it only has to pass with a simple majority to go to Biden. And I'm going to guess at least a few Democrats are going to vote with the Republicans again in the senate.[/quote]

No way he does anything that -- rightly or wrongly -- makes him seem soft on crime, not with an election coming up. Republicans would tee off on him. He'll express his reluctance but will sign it, while privately making sure Charles and Brianne and all the others become lepers in Democratic circles for bringing this mess to him in the first place.[/quote]
