More broadly, there's about 110,000 school-age kids in DC and about 85,000 of them don't attend their neighborhood DCPS school. That's an awful lot of daily trips, and an awful lot of travel time.

Of course you can.  That is how most school districts work. There is no OOB option; just zoned public or private.[/quote]

DCPS is operating under a series of consent decrees that require that any empty seats be made available to any city resident. The consent decrees are a direct result of policies implemented in the wake of Brown v. Board of Education to try to prevent the racial integration of the schools. There's no undoing this. [/quote]
