Everyone is going to tell you your kid won’t like it do theirs gets in. No one wants to go to RM right now. Don’t buy it. If your kid was strong enough to get in, go!
This is such poor advice imo. In reading all these magnet threads, I realize how craze parents and students can be. Magnets are not for everyone. You can have an exceptionally bright kid who do better at his/her local school. Just because your child got in does not mean it's the right program, especially the way the admissions work these days. I have a DD who made into multiple programs including Blair and RMIB and had turn all down to stay local. Your student should pick the environment that s/he will best thrive in.
+1. Blair magnet parent here. DC also accepted to RM IB. I was opposed to send child on the bus so far when we live in W home school area but home MS wasn’t working and even W HS counselor told us DC would have to go to MC or UMD for math by junior year. For that child Blair was the way to go. We have another child who is thriving at W home school. We didn’t consider magnet app for that child. Both children test high on MAP PSAT and get straight As. Going to a magnet is about more than being smart and getting good grades. The school needs to be right for the child .
