If you attend a commonwealth campus, students from nearby states (including DMV area) get about 6k off annual tuition. And annual tuition/room/board is relatively lower at satellite campuses, for OOS students it’s about $35k (including the 6k break). At University Park there’s no 6k discount for OOS students. Also, tuition is higher at the main campus than at satellites. We pay @55k annual tuition for DS at University Park (taking 18hrs each semester)..
I’m from PA. An OOS student living on-campus would be utterly miserable at a satellite campus.
Can you explain why? Mine got into Behrend campus (it’s where the major is). Got some merit, but is debating whether it is worth it to go there (it looks small on a map).
Another PA person. Basically the good students go to State College Campus. The kids who go to satellite are either not good students (and hoping to transfer asap) or older students going back to school and commuting from where they live. It is not a real college experience.
It’s mostly that they can’t afford Penn State UP tuition or living costs, not that they’re not good students.
Cousin's son went to satellite for two years, then transferred to State College and graduated with an engineering degree. Think he proved that he's a good student.
