It is normal religious practice that any Catholic who is not in a state of grace, which might include having eaten too recently, should not receive communion at that time. That is a part of the "legitimately religious" practice. And it is personal and none of your business why a given individual does not take communion at any given Mass. Sin does not make a person "not religious." There is not one among us who is without sin. Also one's political position that women must be the ones to make decisions about pregnancies, medical and moral, is not contradictory to a personal belief that due to the ambiguity in one's own church's theology regarding the time a soul enters a body, that the morally safer path is to not have an abortion at any time (btw, that is the Catholic Church's stance -- they can't know for certain and therefore advise the morally safer choice). It is not the government's role to solve theological ambiguities or uncertainties for all people. The purposes for which our government was established are: to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity. Not to tell people how to resolve their religious ambiguities and certainly not to favor one such resolution over other reasonable resolutions.[/quote]
