Backpacks aren’t allowed to be carried. Kids have to use those 5 minutes to swap out books/supplies plus factor in the travel time. There’s not time. When DD was in MS, she carried 3 classes worth of materials, her water bottle, and her lunch because her locker was so far away from her classes. This was because in honors classes she had to travel to the upper grade area for her classes but her locker was in the 6th grade area.

By the time she stood in the line to use the bathroom & was her hands for lunch, she had 12 mins to eat. She’d then have to rush from the cafeteria back to her locker to swap out materials for her afternoon classes in the 6th grade area and rush back to her class in the 7th or 8th grade area.

I told her I’d she needed to use the restroom & a teacher said no, she could leave. Consequences be dammed. [/quote]
