I didn’t read it but DH did and Haidt apparently said that haidt thinks that it should be illegal for kids under 16 to have social media. I cannot take Haidt seriously since he said that college students are babies because a few college students wanted an absurd level of trigger warnings, but I’d love it if we could somehow stop kids under 16 from having social media. A broken clock is right twice a day.
Politically and socially left kid of a professor and I agree with Haidt. Cell phones and social media for under 16 will be like cigarettes . And the trigger warnings are out of control. Some are good. But like therapy animals, it’s becoming absurd. Gen Z had some great ideas then went totally overboard with them.
Yeah the trigger warnings were a younger millennial cause and Haidt went total straw man with it. Yes some kids thought that professors should warn students if a novel deals with moving homes or family conflict, but the vast majority of elder millennials thought that was absurd and had much more reasonable options on trigger warnings. I'm sure your parent has horror stories but for every millennial who thought admin should force professors to put a detailed trigger warning on everything, there were a thousand of us who thought that managing trauma wasn't the job of a professor. I think it's just absurdly insulting and needlessly contentious to call an entire generation coddled. And now he's going after Gen Z? Haidt is right about a lot of things, but there are plenty of people out there who have better ideas.
