Are any of these tutors in-person? My kid is vehemently opposed to anything virtual these days.
No. Some schools offer in person. Tell them to get a job and pay for in person if they want it.
Kind AND helpful. Thanks as always, DCUM.
It’s free. If they refuse virtual that’s on the child and you need to tell them to grow up and use it or you or they can pay for in person. Seems to work just fine for the rest of us.
My friend tried to set up a session multiple times (Feb 2022-Jun 2022) and couldn't. I tried to set up a session more recently (Fall 2022) and was able to do that after waiting some time. The first session was so so so bad. Nothing I want my child to spend time on even though it is for free. I profusely apologized to my child that she had to sit through that. I am happy for the people who were able to set up a session and got lucky with a good tutor. I've only heard negative experience from other parents I know. So it sounds strange to me when somebody talks about it as if this is something so wonderful.
Posted this upthread, but maybe you didn't see it: Have you all tried having student search through their account? They can look through tutors and see bios and availability and just book directly. No waiting for assignment. May even be a different pool. The tutors we were assigned were not the ones on list my daughter had. She prefers the one she found to the ones we were assigned. Good luck
When you did this, did you then end up with them for a regular tutor? We may need to switch one tutor. I appreciate you posting this.
It's as regular as she schedules. It's great because we don't have to wait for anyone to get back to us. She just looks at the tutors' bios/schedules and pucks the tutor/time and books it directly. Done! The one she likes doesn't know her winter schedule yet, so dd can't book for January yet, but as soon as the tutor posts, dd can book as many slots as she would like, I think. Hope you find a good one!
Good to know. We have two consistent tutors and we just work with them directly on times. Thanks.
I was told by Tutor Me that this is for homework help only. For a long term tutoring, you need to set up a tutor.
I am the PP whose kid sets her own up through mymcps, and there doesn't seem to be a distinction. At least not for HS subjects. She looks at tutors, their bios and their schedules and just books it herself. There is nothing that suggests what she books is homework help as opposed to tutoring. She can book as many sessions as the tutor has calendar availability, which depends on the tutor.
