I've coached and played basketball. Teams need to communicate on defense...ideally calling out if they have the ball, see a screen coming, who is boxing out the shooter on a free throw, etc. That doesn't need to be repeated screaming but does need to be loud enough to be heard across the court with crowd noise. Sometimes players are too quiet on defense. I once had my players yell their defensive calls for a game to get them used to being loud enough on defense and not self-conscious about it. I never had that continue throughout the season, but I can understand why a coach might have a team call out loudly who has the ball on each defensive play. And if it is an in bounding play the player on the ball is the one guarding the passer.
On a break where you may end up with two or three players on defense, one of them has to call ball and has to do it loudly and decisively enough that the other players will listen
For the love of all that is holy.[i][u] This isn't what the OP is talking about. She/he is talking about obnoxious kids literally screaming as loud as they can in the in bounders face as a gimmick. Of course everyone agrees that there should be chatter on the court.
