If PPs have specific ideas for how OP can get the police to press charges against her child when she has asked for that and been refused, I'm sure she would love to know.
I told her in my PP. she needs to take out a peace order.
How does that work with your minor child? I thought it means they have to stay away from you? Can you share more? I’m not quite grasping.
Here’s what happened with us. I had called the police many many times. We have community policing so we got to know them well. Anyway, things were getting really bad and we finally couldn’t take it. When I said that he couldn’t stay, the police said the only way they would take him is if I stated that I was requesting a peace order. So I did. They informed me that by saying this, I would lose all control over where he went. In the middle of the night I got a call from a local hospital psych ward informing me that the police had delivered him there. I was asked to pick him up. I said no. Then they asked for insurance information which I provided. The next day, I arranged to transfer him to a residential treatment program. After that, I had to get counsel to assist with withdrawing the charges and removing my son from the juvenile justice system. I had to meet with a social services case worker a couple of times. After they were satisfied that I had made arrangements for treatment, his case was closed. I later got a letter from the court acknowledging that the case had been closed. The long and short of it was this. I worked with the local police for a long time to make this happen and then got a lawyer to undo what I had started because I didn’t want my son to have a record. No one but the police were effective in helping me get help for my family. There were lots of people who tried and people who contributed along the way. But when it came to the safety of my family, I needed the police.
