This is our first SOL assessment. Any insight into interpreting? What is the vertical scale score?
Ours, too – I found this: https://www.rcps.us/site/handlers/filedownload.ashx?moduleinstanceid=10368&dataid=23672&FileName=2022-2023%20Percentiles%20Sept%2022.pdf Since it’s a statewide test, I’m assuming it’s accurate. My kids scores make sense using this chart.
Teacher here. The data in this chart is based on Roanoke County’s scores. It says that on the bottom. VDOE has not given districts any benchmark scores. The assessment this year is different than last year. Last year the beginning of year assessment was based on the previous year’s standards. So, students who had passed the previous year SOL should have met the benchmark (which VDOE did provide to schools). This year, the test is based on the current year’s SOL which students have not been fully taught. So districts don’t have any idea what a benchmark score would be. That’s probably why Roanoke made this chart because otherwise districts have nothing to go on to interpret student scores. So, you could use this chart to ballpark your child’s scores but know they are based on the test data from a single county and Roanoke demographics are unlikely to be an even match for say, APS or ACPS given the rural vs urban demographic comparison. But I agree it’s better than the absolute nothing VDOE has provided. It’s been very frustrating for schools to have absolutely no way to make meaning of the scores this year.
