Then what was the poster's point? Surely it couldn't have been to make the PP aware that such a thing as public schools exist.

Maybe I am imagining this, but I think I have read many times on this forum defenses of public schools and challenges to the value of private schools.

When I read one of these posts. I always wonder why they are taking the trouble to come here and share their opinions.

Since the neighborhood we live in is 50% private -50% public in the Whitman cluster, I recognize the tension that exists. Whereas the private school people don't seem to care in the least where other's send their kids to school, the public school parents seem irritated that such a thing as private schools exiist. No one will ever come out and say it, but the topic always seems to be just below the surface.

Okay, that's just silly.  I also live in the Whitman cluster and have kids in both.  There are lots of public school families that have been in the public school and are now in private, have been in private and now in public or have children in both.  The kids tend to be friends with kids from public and private schools,  My experience is that no one cares what choice you make for your kids.  Most could afford to go the private route if they chose to, they just haven't chosen to.  So I think they aren't saying it because it's truly not an issue.[/quote]
