my experience (not Mann) is that even at some DCPS there are rich parents who do business trips to Europe (I have done several myself, although I am not rich unfortunately - since they are business, the trips are paid by the firm). several of my DD class mates (1st grade)have gone to Europe with their entire families for summer vacation (much better indication of richness that a business trip paid by an employer). Lat year, in K, when I did a reading about the Eiffel Tower in Paris I asked raise your hand who has even been on top of it and to my surprised several kids did it.
Umm, I believe the reference to parental European "business trips" was not a complimentary one. It was a reference to rich, undersupervised private school kids that party too hard and engage in other acts that your really do not want your children exposed to. Think the high school lifestyle that has led to college lacrosse scandals.
