GM is on a pretty big lot. It's probably too close to ACHS but if they are going to put such a huge school there why not just make that a high school?
These office buildings the city purchased to build schools on have absolutely no green space. I believe that the kids at Ferdinand T. Day play have a rooftop playground. I really find it appalling in a beautiful city like Alexandria that Wilson and the city council are so intent on building up every inch of green space that children in elementary school don't even have a grass feild to run on.
I agree to some extent about the green fields although when I was a kid we played on concrete so my perspective may be skewed. The experience didn't hurt us any and we still had fun. Of course, we played Dodge Ball and had Tether Balls and all those things that are verboten now because the balls are too hard and kids get apparently get hurt when they get hit. Since the middle schoolers don't have recess, they don't have team sports, and they can walk to the GW fields, I think it would be an acceptable option if their school moved to the Central Office building. I didn't realize the Ferdinand kids didn't have a grass playground. Surely they can put some turf on the roof?
