Basically they need to rebalance Tuscarora and Loudoun County. Some kids zoned for Heritage live in neighborhoods close to Riverside and could probably go there to alleviate Heritage crowding. Why independence isn’t on that list when it’s over capacity 3 years in while Rock Ridge sits half empty (literally- 1200 kids enrolled) is insane. Some new developments being built in Sterling may go to Park View.
I think Riverside is close to capacity. The kids you might be thinking of who currently attend Heritage (River Creek neighborhood?) I believe might get rezoned to Tuscarora under the current plan. Another related issue is that Heritage was selected to be one of the two schools in Loudoun for the IB program starting soon... the expectation is that this will drive up the number of special permission requests to attend Heritage by a lot, pushing it way to capacity. (The other site is Loudoun Valley HS in Purcellville.) So that's not helping with the crowding issues in central Loudoun.
River Creek parents will lose their mind if they pay those house prices , taxes and HOA fees for their kids to get sent to Tuscarora.
Let's talk about that attitude which is really fueled by racism and entitlement. Tuscarora has too many black kids for the parents in Landsdowne/Riverside. That's really what you are referring to. Rock Ridge was supposed to be built before Riverside because of the crazy crowding at the high schools in that part of Ashburn but one of the school board reps made sure her Landsdowne constitutents were taken care of before everyone else. Why does everyone who is not black avoid Tuscarora? The amount of money you pay for your house should not have any determination as to where you go to school in a public school system.
It was a nightmare driving to Tuscarora in the morning from the east, and forget about football games. Traffic backed up for miles. Show me where it was about race? Receipts? It was about their terrible math department for our family. RVHS is excited to welcome the new families from Parkview, PFHS, etc. and no one I know is complaining about their race or economic status. Also, east Lansdowne families are fighting to stay at Weller, which has many more FARMS families than Seldens.
Riverside isn’t getting anyone from Park View … ?
I heard they are getting some from various HSs including PV, but maybe there's a new draft. Their district is expanding east and south and grabbing a bunch of different places.
If this attendance zone map is correct (I didn't bother to confirm), then a small number of kids who are currently very oddly zoned to Park View from across 28 by Dulles Town Center could be switched.
Why on earth would they go to riverside instead of even dominion? Weird
Did you look at the map? They are near Kincora, not Park View or Dominion.
Kincora is a road right beside Dulles Town Center which is just past Countryside in Sterling. That’s a quick 3 miles down 7 to Dominion vs up 7 into Leesburg to Riverside. It’s a weird switch IMO
You're right! I didn't compare them. I just thought it was odd that they were currently zoned to PVH when everyone else is from Sterling proper. I am not even sure that they are slotted to be rezoned to Riverside though, so someone who is more invested will have to look into it.
Yeah that’s why the PP who was like “we at riverside are welcoming those coming from park view” was strange. First because I’m not sure anyone zoned to park view is going to be switched to Riverside and the tone of “our high school in one of the wealthiest country club communities WELCOMES the kids coming from the title I school” was weird
It is in response to the poster who say "ALL THE RICH IN LOUDOUN HATE THE POORS AND DON'T WANT THEM AT THEIR SCHOOLS. #TUSCARORA." So yes, RVHS is going to be "welcoming" to the incoming students and zero current families are complaining. Sorry if that does not match up with your views on "country club" people.
