I voted Sully (and Moore for governor). Sully does have a chance. Elrich won the D primary by a razor-thin margin of 33 votes. 1/3 of votes in MoCo are unaffiliated and had not vote in that race. If they go to Sully, and the Blair voters + some Riemer voters go to Sully, then Sully wins. Now.. that's a lot of assumptions.. but Sully does have a chance. It's a lot better than the last election where it was Elrich, then a crazy R (Ficker), and a (D) who threw in her hat as an independent (Floreen). This time it's a D who you either love or hate, and a moderate R.
Sully is just as crazy as Ficker — he just doesn’t have the loooong public record Ficker had. R’s are trying the Youngkin playbook in MoCo—take someone without a record and claim they are moderate during the campaign and the govern like like a nut job. Vote for Sullivan if you want to bring the culture wars to MoCo. Fortunately, in the end no matter how many fake “democrats” post here it isn’t going to work.
I’m one you consider a fake Democrat. I’ve only voted for one Republican in my life, and I did that because that candidate was a better choice than the Democratic one. We have the same issue here. I’d rather take Sullivan’s lack of a record over Elrich’s disastrous one. Clearly others agree with me. I don’t believe in throwing logic out the door and voting for a candidate for no other reason than the letter behind their name. I also don’t deal on hyperbole. Voting for Sullivan won’t “bring the culture wars to MoCo.” What it WILL do is balance the council, which is necessary for the growth of the county.
Same. Haven’t voted for a Republican since the 90s. Registered Democrat since 1988. Elrich is awful. Sullivan is too conservative for me but he’s not crazy. And he will bring diversity of thought and maybe some watchdog oversight, to a one party government that has gone corrupt because nobody is watching them. Or people don’t care how corrupt they are as long as they agree on the issues. We are collectively running the county into the ground. There is no innovation. No plan for business growth, jobs, and skill development for much of the younger, less educated, lower income population that is coming to the county. Social safety net programs are great for the short term and I am all in. But NOBODY has a plan for the long term.
