I know 2 Towson U grads who were multi-millionaires by 40.  I'd call that successful.  They are where they are in life because of their drive and determination---didn't need to attend HYP to achieve success (I Know, shocking, isn't it)

And my spouse and I went to Ivies and arent anywhere near even $200k because we were dumb and went after "passion" jobs. A school is not a guarantee!

We do save for our kids' college, but there is absolutely no way we'll have enough. That said, day care costs as much as in state tuition and we pay that out of cash flow, so it doesn't seem too dire. Kids won't be able to go to any private school in the country, but if they're smart enough to get in somewhere with amazing financial aid (the Ivies are generous to the middle class), or to compete successfully for tuition exchange at a non-elite school (one of us works for a small private university that's part of a network), they will have some options.

But my in laws who clearly make more than us, and seem to spend it like water on a pretty basic but heavily consumerist middle class lifestyle? They have not saved. I mean, they spend it all, what more do you want people to tell you about that? [/quote]
