But it’s a simple issue.  Inflation may be a more important issue for most people but no one really knows who is better on inflation issues—it’s complicated.  But abortion is a bright line with people on either side of it so may sway voters who are conflicted about where to vote on their economic interests.  I think Republicans have taken advantage of that for decades—getting working class people to vote against their economic issues by trumpeting these simple bright line decision points.[/quote]
Furthermore, abortion and birth control are the ultimate economic issues. There’s not much that can send a family in a precarious financial position tumbling down into poverty like an unplanned child. From the medical costs of pregnancy, labor and delivery to the money a woman can’t make when she can’t work to all the costs associated with a child… people pretending that abortion and birth control is some esoteric thought experiment that has no real life effects are kidding themselves.[/quote]
