Yea, there's no reason why this clearly intelligent and committed 18-year-old shouldn't be able to run for ANC rep. Still, I wouldn't vote for him because I'm opposed to the tipping law. I know too many folks in the service industry in DC who are vehemently opposed to any changes in the current system, and I trust them over anyone, regardless of age, who has no experience in the industry.
Not to derail the thread, but I don’t understand this position at all. Public policy - including tipping regulations - should be set in line with the public interest, not the preferences of a small section of the population. I am all for helping the working poor, but there are much more efficient ways to do than through current tipping practices.
All the white servers I know love tipping and all the non-white ones don't. Not saying this is a perfect analysis, but it is something: https://www.eater.com/a/case-against-tipping Basically current tipping practices really help attractive 25 year white folks.
The ones I know are not white. You're over-simplifying.
Have any data whatsover? I'm open to me being wrong due to selection bias.
