I'd like a younger, viable Democratic candidate. I don't hate Biden and I don't blame him for a lot of the current economic mess. Has he made mistakes? Yes, but so does every other President. There's no such thing as a perfect president. DeSantis scares the hell out of me. He will make Trump look like a walk in the park.
Andy Beshear, current governor of Kentucky. This is a Democrat who was able to win in one of the reddest states in the nation. This is a governor who is used to dealing with a legislature that holds a supermajority in both chambers. This is a governor who is not afraid to stand up to said legislature and to make sweeping changes, like firing the entire school Board of Education and replacing them. He's young (44), smart and charismatic and would be a strong candidate to step up and fill the void. Unfortunately, too many of the current crop of Democratic governors are minorities or women. And while Democrats really want to push for a women or minority, now is not the time or political atmosphere to do so. Pushing that agenda will only hurt the party who is currently fighting a large uphill battle. If in 2023, the economy is strong, inflation and gas prices are down and the international political scene has calmed somewhat, then the party could consider a minority or female candidate. But fighting that battle while also fighting a negative political environment is a lose-lose situation. The Democrats have to accept reality that the majority of the country is going to vote for a white male at this time.
