Goulet is not being supported by "out of state" interests. Goulet does have the support of a lot of business interests who appreciate the fact that Goulet has YEARS of experience understanding the DC budget and how taxes and revenue works. Goulet is the only candidate sounding the alarm about how the DC budget has continued to expand significantly at the same time the city is losing residents. Goulet understands that when the next round of tax assessments is done on all the vacant office buildings downtown, the city's coffers are going to decrease as well. The city council has far too many relative novices in understanding how all those moving pieces work together.
Goulet only understands budgets. At no point during this election did he have any unique or creative ideas on how to improve Ward 3. He talked about his experience with budgets at every debate. He never mentioned his activism in the community because he has never been involved in the community. He's good at talking about budgets.
I don't even know that he gets budgets. It's nice to have some money at the end of the year but the city keeps getting surprised by these massive budget surpluses. I don't like it when the book keepers are "surprised" by things. At least pretend like you knew about it. Also what is his platform? What does he say he is going to actually do? He doesn't seem to have ANY plan for schools except to NOT build or develop the property we've already purchased so that means we're overcrowded for at least the next 10 years? We need those schools yesterday and not a council person for this ward who isn't going to fight for them or at least come up with another solution. He also claims prk3 and 4 are budget issues. We don't have space. Each year we have to take seats away because we have too many kids in our elementary schools. He's completely out of touch and it sounds like he as zero plans to improve anything. It sounds like he'd just be rubber stamping whatever the Mayor wants and that's not going to go well for any of us.
