Ramsay Hunt syndrome is very similar but more severe and wide spread neurological symptoms accompanying the face paralysis and less likely to recover completely.

This. It very well may be that he doesn’t recover from these effects. My uncle did not. He taped his eyelid to sleep and eventually had surgery to try to fix it (so it closed). [/quote]
