There is absolutely no reason anyone should ever go to Dickenson. Ever. https://thedickinsonian.com/opinion/2019/02/07/should-white-boys-still-be-allowed-to-talk/
TBH, this is very well written. Impressive, even if I disagree with the argument.
I was also impressed. My takeaway wasn't that the author thought white guys should shut up, but that they should prioritize listening when the issue is something they have little firsthand experience with. Nice piece!
Would you be equally "impressed" with a piece that says "Should black girls still be allowed to talk?" Do you believe that black girls should "prioritize listening?"
NP. This opinion piece is the only thing I've ever seen from Dickinson that I liked. I toured their with my (white) son and the admission official was such a self-centered blowhard we couldn't wait to get out of there. I'm going to say something that will blow your mind, and that is that "black girls" and "white boys" have very different lived experiences. Black girls do not need to "prioritize listening" because it has already been prioritized for them. What they need are more chances to speak. White boys, on the other hand, have plenty of chances to speak. They need to learn to listen a little more, and speak only when they have something of value to add. Just because a thought pops into your head doesn't make it important. And I love white boys. I married one and two of them are my children.
