Son was on one waitlist, Case Western, and just got an email saying he will not get an offer. Moving on...
Case typically has a large waitlist. Some years it really moves and they really need it to fill the class. Take 2020/21: there were 1304 Freshman, and 1076 of those were from the Wait List! Yes---82.5% of the class of 2024 came from the WAITLIST! Other years they take 0 or less than 20. Case definately has a difficult time predicting yield. IMO there are several factors affecting this: First, Cleveland isn't the most exciting place so location works against it for many (many would rather be in California or NE/Boston area); 2nd being just below the top tier means that many, many of their admits/accepted students also wanted to go to Ivy, MIT/Stanford/CMU/T25 schools (Case is a "t20/Ivy reject" school) So it's very hard to predict how many will get accepted elsewhere or not each year and if they can afford wherever else they were admitted. ****I state this as someone whose DC ended up picking between Case and another slightly higher ranked school that has similar problems (location that can make Cleveland seem downright amazing and a class full of students/applicants many of whom applied to and wanted to attend Ivy/MIT/CMU/Stanford/T25 schools and have the stats on paper to earn their lottery ticket to the admissions game. DC will not be attending Case, but it was a good school, just not the best fit for them.
It seems this year they have eliminated a large portion of the list but are still keeping some students on, with the possibility of a spring admit. DC got an email today explaining that they're still interested in DC if a spot opens up, which they claim they might not know for a couple of weeks. We'll see.
