Not the OP, sorry to hijack...[/quote] Good carb-y veggies: butternut squash, sweet potatoes, white potatoes if they are baked. But I eat paleo, so avoid beans and legumes too. If you don't, then I would eat beans over white potatoes. Most of your energy should come from fat metabolism. This means decreasing circulating glucose and insulin---insulin inhibits fat metabolism, so if you are always snacking or never going more than 3-4 hours without food, your body doesn't switch over and use your stored fat. If you exercise before you eat, you are going to use stored fat for energy and lose fat. If you just decrease calories, you will also lose muscle mass as well. You have to be willing to be hungry, though, and know it isn't the end of the world. It takes some getting used to. Go look at marks daily apple online. He is the best of the primal/paleo people.
