A lot more inequality and a continued hollowing-out of the middle class. Instead of having a few people at the top, a few people at the bottom, and most people in the middle, we’ll have a few people at the top, a few more people in the middle, and a lot of people at the bottom. Public schools will continue to decline - they’re already schools of last resort in some places in the south and this will continue. I don’t know about 10 years from now, but 20-25 years from now I think anyone with any amount of means will send their kids to private schools (probably Christian private because it’s more affordable) apart from a few places in the northeast and Midwest where public schools will still be ok.
Public schools have gotten better and better over the years. The difference is that years ago, if you weren't able to succeed at school, for whatever reason, you left. Now public schools try hard to accommodate everyone and many more people are able to get at least a basic high school education. This is the purpose of public school. It does mean that people with means who are looking for something beyond that basic high school education will choose private, but that is not because the public schools are failing.
