I’m financially comfortable enough. When I find myself feeling envious of other with more money, I just focus on my family and friends, and the job I love. These things fulfil me. But also, I’m prettier than any of my wealthier friends. I know this sounds shallow, but I take great joy in being beautiful. My wealthiest friend has had several cosmetic surgeries, and as she has lamented, she still needs to put in a lot of work with makeup, etc to achieve something close to the look she wants. If I were given a choice between being very wealthy and average to slightly pretty looking or being financially comfortable plus beautiful, I wouldn’t change my situation. (I would never say these things in real life). And I’m also strong and healthy, and a long run always leaves me feeling great, so that’s another way to vanquish envy.
Looks fade. When the wall comes for you, then what do you have?
And even if you look good for an older person, nobody really cares that much anymore. They just think you look good for an older person. There's a hard cut for how long physical attractiveness is a major asset for women. The only people I know who take that much joy from their physical appearance who aren't like 20 years old and immature are narcissists (who are often delusional about their beauty too) which means you would have a host of other problems.
PP is proud of her appearance. Who cares? She’s admitting a secret on an anonymous forum. Good for her.
+1 I know this might sound snarky (I just don't know a smarter way to say it) but I agree, a little bit of baseless delusion that props up your self-esteem is a great asset to have in life. Who cares what others think as long as you feel good about yourself, whatever the situation?
