It's hard to un-scare people once you have scared them for two years, and politics are a powerful force especially in this town, so I'm not surprised it's hard for parents and even kids to let go of masks.
Maybe kids who lost a parent or guardian were scared of that and not a simple common sense public health measure.
At this point their parents and guardians should be triple vaccinated and shouldn't need to burden their children with the fear of transmitting the virus to somebody vulnerable.
At this point you can have an unmasked child so maybe you stop telling people how to feel. I’m sure you have no fears of anything and are incredibly socially adjusted and full of empathy for others.
Not telling anyone how to feel, but I do care what adults are doing to children. If children are scared of the virus, or are burdened with the fear of infecting someone, it’s the adults around them who are responsible.
Do you suggest children not live in the reality of their world? I worry about what adults are doing to children, when they go so far in shielding them from any of the discomforts of reality that these children grow incapable of coping with reality and its discomforts.
The reality of their world is that this virus has never been a significant risk to children, and that the adults around them are now vaccinated and boosted. Also, yes, I do believe that we must not burden children with the idea that they could be guilty of killing someone because they transmitted a virus. Transmitting viruses has always been part of the human condition, and should never be a source of guilt unless done carelessly or intentionally. It has nothing to do with shielding kids from all discomforts.
