Full IB student with 3.98 GPA/4.52 wGPA and 35 ACT with good extracurriculars, looking at the Sloan School. Deferred EA, and I assume its a very long-shot for admission today, but you never know.
Rejected. Makes me (and perhaps him) feel better to know that he could have been better than 95% of the applicants (to MIT!) and still not have gotten in.
The turnaround is He will now get to decide the school that gets to have him! Their loss.
Hope so! He's already got a very good option in Northeastern, which checks a lot of boxes for him, as well as a few in-state options (though he was deferred from UVa early action). I'm sure he will do well wherever he ends up. MIT is a longshot for (almost) anybody, particularly someone with his profile.
