There's a lot in the body positivity movement about men, not sure why you think men aren't included. Do a google search. The only difference I've seen is women embrace it and promote it more, I don't know very many men in real life who choose to promote it or talk about it. But it's certainly not because they're being excluded, the every day guy just seems to not really care. If you want more male body positivity, you need to start those discussions like women have, not just sit around complaining someone else should. The woman from the article is extreme. I don't know any women with opinions like hers. She was fired for her comments. What more do you want?
Here we go, THIS is the answer. Like women are supposed to fix it for them AND fix it for men, too? What are men doing to fix it for themselves if this an issue they feel strongly about?
+2 And I think one reason women have been much more involved in pushing body acceptance and positivity is that there is a recognition that women have historically enforced restrictive and unrealistic body norms on each other, whether it was moms doing it to daughters or peers doing it to each other. And of course then men doing it to women, too. So by standing up and supporting each other, instead of critiquing and judging, women are making the world a kinder place for other women. Who then, feeling more accepted, may turn around and do the same. It's a positive reinforcement loop. But men don't historically enforce unrealistic body norms on each other. Why? Because we have a patriarchy, not a matriarchy. Women enforce the patriarchy because everyone does. But men have never enforced a matriarchy on each other because it doesn't exist. Nothing to enforce. Some individual people might have unrealistic expectations for what men should look like, but there is no cultural imperative to look that way. Oh, and body acceptance actually started as fat acceptance, which is a movement spearheaded by fat women but which absolutely helps fat men. I know so many people who have realized in the last 10 years ago that their prejudice and judgment against fat people in general (not just women) is unfair and harmful in the same way that racism and misogyny are. And that's a benefit to men even though it was mostly women pushing these ideas.
