I know I'm in the minority, but no, not kidding. I'm not advocating virtual for all, just for those who benefit from that approach. My older two went in person, but my youngest, 17, who battles a number of issues that my other two don't, does much better in virtual. I wasn't for it at first, but she went from depressed/suicidal in 7th/8th/9th to honor roll in virtual HS.

The prevalence of guns in schools is insane. There was a gun incident when she was in middle school. Gun threats in Alexandria last semester. How many gun incidents in the past two weeks in DMV area? My nephew in Richmond had two last week.

In addition, she doesn't want to deal with getting her butt smacked in the hall, lewd comments, mean cliques, creepy gym teachers, rude assistant principals or anything that might push her back into the awful state she was in when she was in person. As YHS alumni, I would have preferred a good in person experience for her, but it doesn't seem to be that great if she has to deal with all that. Some kids can, but for others, it is toxic. Fortunately, since I telework, I'm able to optimize her virtual experience and eliminate all that distraction. She still has friends, a life outside of school, a job and college/career plans.
