I have definitely been feeling this. It was bad last winter too. Keep in mind that lack of motivation and inability to feel pleasure (anhedonia) are signs of depression. It’s not just about being outright sad all the time. I am pretty sure mine will get better as the days get longer and the temps get warmer. I am starting to get things on the social calendar again which helps. But overall I feel like my social life is a shadow of what it was in 2019. Some friends have moved away, others have been so over the top cautious that I don’t see them between November and March. My kids are young and without many birthday parties or events at their schools it’s harder to meet and bond with other parents. I don’t know if I can handle another Covid winter next year. We might have to relocate if this area just goes into hiding once the weather is cold and it’s “Covid season”. I am sad about the ways in which our society and my life has changed because of Covid. A lot of us probably also have a lot of anger that can’t be directed at any one person and we are just carrying that around. I am not a Covid denier; we took a lot of precautions before vaccines and we wear masks in public indoor spaces. But I am not willing to give up life as I know it every winter for a virus that was so mild for my family (got it at the beginning of the omicron wave).
We have the same feeling. We can't do this another year. I'm not a covid denier either, but we are emotionally done. In the beginning, people would talk about how this state was unsustainable. Well, it's isn't sustainable. We've been out of our home, in person school, in person work for the majority of the pandemic, but the constant anxiety, checks, case counts and concerns are adding up. Winter here is hard already. The last two years have been awful. This year full of cold, snow and ice has made it worse. Start small, one task a day on the long list. Plan a vacation. Try and see the sun every day. Put your phone down at 9pm. Only a few more weeks of winter. If spring doesn't come soon, I'm hunting groundhog myself!
