I’ll be honest, OP. As someone who is constantly trying to avoid the pitfalls of similar trade offs, what gets under my skin about your post is your confidence/certainty. It’s not your choices, per se, but how strong your belief is that this is a better deal for your kids and the rest of us who prioritize the early years are misguided. Do you never feel or express self-doubt about this? You’re always blissfully on the same page as your husband? Your sister may be responding to your lack of vulnerability here. It’s hard to be close to someone who has it all figured out—especially regarding something as complicated and emotional as parenthood
THIS. I know almost no women: SAH/WOH who don’t sometimes question if they are doing the right thing. The truth is that none of us really know how our stories (and our children’s stories will unfold). PP put her finger on it -the lack of vulnerability is glaring. Part of relationships is finding a way to connect with someone where they are. OP does not have the vulnerability and the humility that requires. I WOH, consequently, we have a higher income. I would never take up the posture with another family member that I have it all figured -I sometimes wonder if the trade offs we’ve made are worth it. OP, life is a gamble. No one has it all figured out. No one.
