As the parent of a new UVA student, I naively thought that state government had minimal or no control over firings/hiring at state universities/colleges. Apparently the new AG also fired the counsel for GMU. This should be of concern to any parent of students at these institutions who is paying attention.
It’s if no concern. These positions answer to the AG. Just like with any other type of “at will” position to the AG, the AG gets to clean house and replace with like-minded individuals. The Dems do the same when they take office. Same thing happens at the federal level when a new party comes into power.
It is absolutely a cause for concern. This administration has already shown their willingness to completely overreach, so there is every reason to be concerned that they will try to interfere with Virginia’s public universities in other inappropriate ways, such as trying to dictate course curriculum.
This happens every time a new administration takes over, left or right. Learn your civics
No, silly! It's only cause for outrage when it's a REPUBLICAN administration taking over. Democrats can fire and hire whomever they wish. /s
It’s cause for concern when it’s atypical, and so obviously an attempt to retaliate against this employee for serving his country.
I agree with PP. He was hired by the Board of Visitors and in normal times would have been fired by them if they had a need to. I’m not sure if the new AG is open to a suit. As a Virginian I’m mad at the new guy wasting tax money by inserting himself into needless suits. We all pay. I have a feeling the two university attorneys will land on their feet though. It’s an honor to be fired by a fascist; to be seen as a threat.
