Almost all the things people are citing as distinctly american are found all over the rest of the world. Middle aged mom jean capris and Born ugly walking sandals? I mean, have you seen a 55 year old German tourist visiting the US? That's their uniform. The ONLY distinguishing factor is US college shirts. You find someone with a cinched waste puffer jacket - maybe there's a 90% chance they're from the US. But it's not super rare to find that in europe. But you find someone on planet earth in a real college shirt (not a faux made up name) and there is a 100% chance they are from the US (or their US friend/family gave it to them).
+1. I think a lot of the posters are traveling to much nicer places that I do. I guess these comments are mainly in relation to the EU and London? And, even in the the EU, the capitols only. Once you're off the beaten path and into real life, you see a lot more. Except for men in shorts. In many parts of the world, men in shorts is a marker of US/Canada. That still sorta holds.
