Yeah, because heaven forbid any school that wasn’t prized a century ago improve itself and become prestigious. Same for people, if you weren’t born into wealth and privilege, don’t bother trying to earn your way up.  ‘Striver’ is a word the insecure elite use to close ranks and protect their privilege. But guess, what—institutions change. And people, too. [/quote]

“Striver” is reserved for those who try too hard to be a part of the “privileged” group when it would be less unseemly to succeed on their work and merit  and really not care about prestige. It’s one of those things you can smell from a mile away, and you know it when you see it. It’s triggering to you because it calls out your deep seated insecurities. [/quote]
