I think it is important to acknowledge where we're at with the safety and efficacy analysis of the vaccine.

The only rigorous data we have on the vaccine in children 5-12 years old comes from the 3,000 kids that participated in the phase 2/3 trial.  Efficacy was established primarily through immunobridging studies against older adolescents, but this does not directly establish efficacy against infection or severe illness, nor did it consider the Omicron variant that is already the dominant strain. More importantly, the size of the trial- 3,000 kids- ws not sufficient to establish the safety and benefits of the vaccine to children in this age group.  Instead, Emergency Use Authorization was done by estimating adverse events based on their frequency in children 12-16 years old.

We'll have better data soon, as large numbers of kids are being vaccinated as we speak. But I think most experts would agree that it would be inappropriate to mandate the vaccine based on the currently available data.[/quote]

Not to mention the very important point about how beneficial the Covid shot is for kids.

What is the benefit of being vaccinated as an older adult?
You are less likely to be hospitalized or to die.

Kids are already less likely to be hospitalized and even less likely to die due to Covid.  That is a fact and we consistently see it in the statistics that the death rate increases as your age increases.

So, then, what is the benefit of forcing a 6 year old to get this shot?  Likely not much.

Glad it’s available for those parents who feel the need for it based on their situation.  But, mandates are unethical.  Anyone pushing for a vaccine mandate for anyone under age 12 should be ashamed of themselves. [/quote]
