Outright rejected. 1570 SAT, 3.97UW/4.83W at magnet. Nat'l & state awards, Capt of sports team, unique/complimentary ECs w/ regional/state recognition, various service, Nat'l Merit, AP scholar/distinction, club pres. Such a bummer. Wondering were there that many applying from this area? Or, should we worry about a rec? Seems they cut over 50% this year, took fewer and deferred much fewer. Knocked the wind out of kid's sails a bit. Did not expect an admit, but thought they'd at least get deferred.
Come on, you misled your kid if they expected anything more than a rejection. This is NOT a diss on your child, but these schools are EXTREME reaches for ALL applicants. How did you miss that memo??
Thanks for hitting someone when they're down. I did not mislead kid, we fully expected that rejection was a possibility, but at this stage of EA, with their strong stats, they seemed likely for at least deferral. I've been watching stats for a long time. PS. You really don't have to be such a jerk.
Sorry. It is just that for months people have been saying that schools like that are like buying a lottery ticket. I guess my kid and I really faced the stats when she applied. Not saying she did not buy a ticket for a reach, but there was no surprise when the outcome was no. It was not a criticism, just that I can't really relate. Obviously, you kid is a superstar (I mean that sincerely) and will do very well.
Thanks. Appreciate it. They would have applied to a different school that was less of a gamble, but everything they liked was ED, which we can't do. Then, in the meantime, they got the interview, and it went really well, and they had a decent nat'l award and got hopeful of at least deferral. Ah well. They just work so hard, I really wanted something that wasn't such a buzzkill, but they'll survive.
