They both had mental illnesses, one had terrible trauma, one had multiple addictions. At various times throughout my childhood both were neglectful, one was openly abusive. They both hurt me and my brothers a LOT. The trauma has lasted decades. But they are not garbage. They are my mother and father, who were sick and had addictions. [/quote]
