If you choose private for the small class size, realize that a small class may be very stifling and be the worst thing for their social life and social development.
Curious of what you think can be too small? We’re looking at 3 schools for our now fifth grader. Classes (entire class) vary from 30-100 kids. He’s a quirky kid but shy. I feel like I’m a class of 30 there maybe only a handful of kids he clicks with? But 100 feels like a lot to navigate? Thoughts/Opinions?
Another poster here. My kids went to both private school and public schools. What I found stifling about the small number of kids at private school was that there was only one friend group - there were only about 15 boys in my kids' cohort. In one kid's year, there was a kingpin kid who decided what sports team, activities and games (eg pokemon) that everyone should like. If he didn't like robotics, it wasn't going to happen. My kids moved to public schools. With many more classes and kids across a single grade, it was easier to find their own tribe whether that was with the computer geeks, the basketball players, the drama kids, the band kids, the frisbee kids etc. Kingpins weren't a thing. I thought that being exposed to a bigger and more diverse group was also good preparation for college and for life.
