This should have happened over the summer. But instead of reining in the caucus then, Biden and Pelosi cut the progressives and moderates too much slack -- allowing this damaging and unnecessary political debacle to take place. Sure, the infrastructure bill passed, but only because enough GOP members hopped on board. The division between moderates and progressives is still there. The jury is still out on the budget reconciliation bill, which still has several hurdles in front of it -- both in the House and Senate. The Ds need to get their act together fast. They've already damaged themselves politically as thousands of voters switched to GOP candidates in Virginia and New Jersey this past week.
Cant believe Pelosi folded. This bill guarantees 5 years of work for Trump voting steel and construction workers. Meanwhile the social spending bill is dead.
I still don’t understand why the rest of the GOP is against this bill. The other one I understand.
Yes you do. It's because it gives a win to Democrats. That's it. That's why. Can we talk about the squad? I don't even know what to say other than, shaking my head, disappointed at them. It feels so self-defeating, what they are doing. If they want to be activists, get the heck out of Congress and go be organizers. If you're in Congress, it's because you are there to work on legislation.
I think the squad had a wake up call when Youngkin won. I suspect the party leaders have been lecturing the squad and potentially making deals to get them to fall in line.
They didn’t make any (meaningful) deals, they got browbeaten like recalcitrant children because they caused the defeat of an entire state’s leadership and the House of Delegates. They don’t care from their ‘safe’ districts but their neighbors abd fellow Congresspeople did.
