I asked my pretty reliable kid about this last night, since I was curious about the claims that it was impossible, or that there was teacher error involved. According to my HS-aged kid, there are two ways to access the MAP test - either with a browser extension or via a website. Some teachers advise the kids to go to the website, and others tell them to use the browser extension. Either way, no one checks. One of the two ways would allow other tabs to be open at the same time.
My kid said this isn’t true.
When taking the MAP virtually, chrome books had to be muted. So mine tired to use Alexa to do the math. I shut that down as soon as I heard him and had a talk afterwards about cheating. Kids are creative and smart. In person, I would imagine it is very difficult to cheat but probably not impossible.
