If FCV and Barca are hurt by this, then I wonder if Loudoun Soccer helped finance the purchase.
This. Takes out Loudoun's main competitors.
Right, I’m sure these other clubs with hundreds of paying parents will just close up shop because the fields come under new owners. No way they could negotiate to use a couple of the fields. There are other fields you know. Money solves these problems
Just hundreds? These clubs are that small?
Yes, Barca and FCV are small clubs. Certainly small compared to Loudoun Soccer. I’m always amazed at the outsize attention they seem to attract on this board given their relative size. I have had kids play in all of these clubs at different times. Barca has around 30 odd teams, maybe 500 players. FCV has even less, only girls, I’d guess around 300 players. Loudoun has something like 10,000 players between rec and travel.
Loudoun Soccer can and has used their fields. Also, lacrosse, field hockey, football, etc. Its not just used for soccer. It is not limited to Barca and FCV. Could be a cool outdoor concert venue too (like Segra could be), political rallies, camps, outdoor movie nights, adult sport leagues, etc. but there appears to be no imagination by these owners. Loudoun is one of the richest counties in the country, with lots of bored families and people looking to spend their disposable income. Anyhow ... I'd hope these new investors don't limit use to VAR soccer. What a waste that would be. And ... if it all fails to turn enough cash flow, then sell it toi a developer.
They can do all of those things AND kick out a competing soccer club.
The growth opportunity for Virginia Revolution is in cutting into Loudoun’s market share. Loudoun has about 100 travel teams plus a huge feeder rec league, Barca has ~35 teams, FCV (in Loudoun) has ~15. If they told FCV to get lost tomorrow, FCV’s GA players either move w/ FCV to another location or to another ECNL/GA club. The non-GA teams don’t use Evergreen much...so it’s small potatoes. Barca is bigger, so if VRSC ran them off, they’d pick up some players, but a lot of people are at Barca for the brand/style of play, so a good number go elsewhere. They’ll need to figure out both 1) how better to monetize Evergreen and 2) how to grow VRSC’s rec program so that it can be a better feeder to the travel program and qualify for more County space...ultimately cutting into Loudoun’s market share.
