You will know by 10th grade or so if you are going to be a potential starter for a MLSNext team. Many/most of the kids who are not either drop down to a lower level club team and play HS or work out a deal to play with the MLSNext team for only half a year. Almost all kids who are starting on an MLSNext team junior and senior year have the option of playing D1 (though, of course, not necessarily their top choice D1) and most will receive some level of athletic scholarship if they go that route.
