NJ native here.  Yes, CNJ definitely qualifies as a poor man's William & Mary.  Only 7 percent of its students are from out of state and they're working to increase that so it's actually easier to get in from out of state than in.  They also offer merit aid.

Then you're behind the times, that's all.  Because yes, it is highly regarded.  It's actually more selective than Rutgers.

I’m not being “cute” at all - I had to look it up to confirm. You’re being delusional if you think College of NJ is selective or highly regarded - I’d put it on par with U of Mary Washington. (this is not to say you can’t get a good education there because you can at most colleges.)[/quote]

And your reading comprehensive skills are lacking, perhaps because of the bubble you now live in.  I said it was highly regarded in the "tri-state area" -- translation, locally and not necessarily in the DMV -- and I said it was "more selective than Rutgers," which it is (49 versus 61 percent).  I also said it has "nowhere near" the reputation of W&M and is doesn't.

All of this true.  It's the only public college ranked in the top 10 in US New's regional rankings for the north (it's ranked 5).  It's the school of choice for NJ students who want/need to stay in state but think Rutgers is too big.  My entire family still lives in NJ and my niece who is now a lawyer went elsewhere in state because CNJ rejected her.

The OP asked for safeties, and it's as good a safety as any in many ways.  Not to mention, again, that it actually favors out of state students in admissions.
